Tournament Planning

Eligibility

  1. Students competing must be enrolled full-time in the school they are representing.
  2. New Zealand students competing must be classified as a Year 7 or Year 8 student on the New Zealand Ministry of Education Enrol database.
  3. Participating New Zealand schools must be an affiliated member of NZAIMS – New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schooling.
  4. Students may compete in more than one code however timetable allowances will NOT be made for any competitors.
  5. Competitors must be over 10 years of age and under 13 years of age, as at 31 December the year before the tournament year. Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation. For the 2021 AIMS Games, this means the accepted birth years are: 2008, 2009 and 2010.
  6. All participants must have online medical and media waiver documentation completed to be eligible compete.
  7. This is an inclusive event providing opportunities for students with physical, visual and intellectual disabilities to compete. The Para sports of Swimming and Cross Country require a provisional classification for eligibility. In all other sports, disabled athletes compete in an open class. See individual sports for entry requirements.

Costs

  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $60.00 per competitor (NZ$) per event (Canoe Sprint or Canoe Slalom), or if competitors wish to do BOTH events $90.00 per competitor.
  • Non-refundable / Payment MUST be made within seven days of receipt of invoice.
  • Invoices will be sent to the School Accounts Manager after the entry closing date, Wednesday 9th June 2021.

Entries Close

  • Wednesday 9th June 2021 at 11.59pm
  • Entries to the 2021 Anchor AIMS Games Sporting Championships will be made and only accepted online
  • All registrations are completed online with EnterNOW.
  • A ‘Quick Start Guide’ for EnterNOW will be sent out with the Registration Booklet.
  • Registrations will only be accepted from the designated School Anchor AIMS Games Coordinator.
  • Schools will be allocated a unique Anchor AIMS Games registration log in code to complete their entries.

If registration for an activity is oversubscribed, then the opportunity to participate will be at the discretion of the executive committee and no further correspondence will be entered into (if unsuccessful team/individual entry will be refunded).

The EnterNOW system will generate a confirmation email three days prior to entries closing so school coordinators can check that they have entered the correct individuals, teams, codes, divisions etc. The AIMS Games Trust has a strict NO REFUND policy from this date! NO EXCEPTIONS!
Wednesday 23rd JuneAll schools must have paid their registration invoice to have their entry confirmed.  Late entries (if accepted) will incur a 50% penalty fee.
Wednesday 30th JuneConfirmation sent to all 2021 participating schools (if registration for a sporting code is oversubscribed then the opportunity to compete will be at the discretion of the executive committee).

Venue

  • Thirty minutes drive out of Tauranga City is McLaren Falls Park, 190 hectares of pastoral and horticultural parkland set alongside Lake McLaren. 
  • Around 300 sheep roam through the grassed areas so dogs are not permitted within McLaren Falls Park. Dogs are also not permitted to be left unattended in vehicles.
  • The event is held at Top Flat in McLarens Falls.
  • Please obey all security, marshals, pre race communications and event staff.
  • There is strictly NO vehicle access to the park/Top Flat event site through the main gate – with the exception of park visitors.
  • ALL Anchor AIMS Games vehicles must drive past the main gate and continue 2.2km up to Maungapopo Road. Then turn right and into the signposted carpark at Blooming Acres (400 car parks).
  • Shuttles will transport athletes, spectators and your gear the 1.5km down into McLaren Falls to Top Flat and back again when you wish to leave (please allow plenty of time for this).
  • There will be a compulsory Park n Ride operating on all scheduled event days (Sunday to Tuesday).
  • Mobility Card and Anchor AIMS Games Officials (car pass holders) will be directed where to drive on arrival to the Park n Ride site.

NOTE: The Sprint schedule will be confirmed and distributed once entries have closed off.

General Rules

  • Six kayakers from each school in each Individual Division (e.g. six x Year 7 Boys, five Year 7 Girls etc.).
  • Each school can only enter one team per age and gender in the team event (e.g. one Year 7 Boys team, one Year 8 Boys team, one Year 7 Girls team and one Year 8 Girls team).
  • For all individual and team’s events to be constituted there must be a minimum of three entrants from at least two different schools. If these criteria are not met, then the entrants go into the next age group i.e. Year 7 would compete in the Year 8 event. If there are insufficient girls, then they will move into the boy’s event of the corresponding year or as above up a year group.
  • Wear clothing that is associated with your school. No bare torso allowed.
  • Please obey all marshals and briefings and park all vehicles in set areas.
  • Officials only in designated areas during each race.
  • All team managers are required to have their team medical forms with them during the event.
  • Team Managers are responsible for their parents and supporters.
  • Please ensure that the safety and enjoyment of all competitors is of upmost importance.

Equipment Rules

  • All Kayaks will be supplied – own kayaks not permitted.
  • All paddles are supplied.
  • Canoe Slalom – All buoyancy vests, spray decks and helmets will be supplied.
  • Shoes are permitted in kayaks.
  • Individuals may use their own paddle, buoyancy vest, spray deck or helmet if desired.

Health and Safety

  • All participants, team managers and schools are reminded that they compete at their own risk and absolve the event director, all marshals, helpers and volunteers from any blame or claim.
  • Officials and safety kayakers will be located on water with radio coverage to event organisers in case of emergency.

  • Clear instruction to coaches/team managers will be given about the extent of the organisers responsibilities at the Managers Meeting.

Discipline - Teams Event

  • Schools to select teams comprising three boys or three girls in each year group.
  • Slalom Team members can be of mixed gender and mixed year groups; however, they compete in the boy’s team race of the eldest team member.
  • Sprint Team members ages and genders are specified for each team event as follows:
    – 100m relays teams of 3 are gender and year specific.
    – Mixed relay teams of 3, minimum one girl in each team.
  • All participants in the team event must have competed in the individual event.
  • The last opportunity to name or change teams will be at the Team Managers meeting with the exception of withdrawals due to injury or illness.
  • All team members must be students at the same school.
  • The organisers will accept students from different schools if they do not have the required number in their team BUT no points will be awarded for this event (participation only).

Event Honours

  • Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd 3rd in each event provided the rules of event constitution are met.
  • Teams Event points are awarded to the first three teams only (1st = 18, 2nd = 16, 3rd = 15)
  • Individual points will be distributed for the top 16 athletes (Points are 1st = 18, 2nd = 16, 3rd = 15, 4th = 14 and so on).
  • Top School Cup awarded to the winning school with combined points from the Teams Event and Individual Events.

Chief Official

The organisers will appoint a Chief Official to whom general complaints can be directed. Complaints must be lodged within 15 minutes of the completion of the race on the official disputes form and accompanied by $100.00.

Medal Presentation

  • Individual and Team Event place getters for each Year Group/Gender will be presented with their medals at the venue at completion of all races.
