Tournament Planning

Eligibility

  1. Students competing must be enrolled full-time in the school they are representing.
  2. New Zealand students competing must be classified as a Year 7 or Year 8 student on the New Zealand Ministry of Education Enrol database.
  3. Participating New Zealand schools must be an affiliated member of NZAIMS – New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schooling
  4. Students may compete in more than one code however timetable allowances will NOT be made for any competitors.
  5. Competitors must be Over 10 years of age and 13 years of age or Under as at the 1st January of the tournament year (2021). Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation (accepted birth years for the 2021 Games are: 2008, 2009 and 2010).
  6. All participants must have online medical and media waiver documentation completed to be eligible compete.
  7. This is an inclusive event providing opportunities for students with physical, visual and intellectual disabilities to compete. The Para sports of Swimming and Cross Country require a provisional classification for eligibility. In all other sports, disabled athletes compete in an open class. See individual sports for entry requirements.

Costs

  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $400.00 per team (NZ$) 6-Aside Division and $500.00 per team (NZ$) 11-Aside Divisions.
  • Should an umpire be required, then there is an additional cost of $750.00 for the week.
  • Non-refundable / Payment MUST be made within seven days of receipt of invoice.
  • Invoices will be sent to the School Accounts Manager after the entry closing date, Wednesday 9th June 2021.

Entries Close

  • Entries to the 2021 Anchor AIMS Games International Sporting Championships will be made and only accepted online
  • All registrations are completed online with EnterNOW.
  • Registrations will only be accepted from the designated School Anchor AIMS Games Coordinator.
  • Schools will be allocated a unique Anchor AIMS Games registration log in code to complete their entries.

If registration for an activity is oversubscribed, then the opportunity to participate will be at the discretion of the executive committee and no further correspondence will be entered into (if unsuccessful team/individual entry will be refunded).

Wednesday 9th JuneEntries close for the 2021 Anchor AIMS Games at 11.59pm. The EnterNOW system will generate a confirmation email three days prior to entries closing so school coordinators can check that they have entered the correct individuals, teams, codes, divisions etc. The AIMS Games Trust has a strict NO REFUND policy from this date! NO EXCEPTIONS!
Wednesday 23rd JuneAll schools must have paid their registration invoice to have their entry confirmed.  Late entries (if accepted) will incur a 50% penalty fee.
Wednesday 30th JuneConfirmation sent to all 2021 participating schools (if registration for a sporting code is oversubscribed then the opportunity to compete will be at the discretion of the executive committee).
Wednesday 28th JulyAll Team/individual online name and code information registration forms to be completed. Competitors’ names, date of birth, playing shirt number, coaches and manager’s names and contact details are required on this form. NOTE: Any team that withdraws after this date will be ineligible to compete at the 2022 Anchor AIMS Games Hockey tournament.

Divisions

  • Girls 11-Aside Division (maximum of 16 registered players per team)
  • Boys 11-Aside Division (maximum of 16 registered players per team)
  • Girls 6-Aside Division (maximum of 10 registered players per team)
  • Boys 6-Aside Division (maximum of 10 registered players per team)
  • Mixed 6-Aside Division (maximum of 10 registered players per team / strictly a minimum of three boys and three girls per team)
  • Schools can register a team in all five Divisions (Boys, Girls and Mixed 6-Aside, Boys and Girls 11 aside)
  • To ensure the health and safety of all players we request that they are competitive hockey players in their local competition.
  • To ensure players are given equal opportunities the AIMS Games Trust recommends all players get a minimum of half a games play, per game.
  • If a division is oversubscribed teams will be selected by the executive committee at their discretion. Please note, schools that have registered in four or more divisions maybe eliminated first.

Following a project to look at if hockey’s structures and delivery was fit for purpose, Hockey New Zealand is implementing a range of actions to improve participants experiences in our game including national game format changes to the Small Sticks Year 7 & 8 (Kwik Sticks) and Development modules. Transition has started with the intent to have it implemented across the country in 2022 in all aspects of Year 7 and 8 hockey including but not limited to: winter competitions, events, tournaments and holiday programmes. From 2022 onwards, all Anchor AIMS Games hockey will make a full transition to the 6 aside format.

Placing/Seeding

Final placings from the 2019 Anchor AIMS Games Tournament will determine seeding for this year. For the inaugural Girls and Boys 6 Aside tournament seedings will be at the tournament organisers discretion.

Umpires

  • The organising committee will appoint umpires to games.
  • There will be a compulsory umpire briefing at all venues on Monday 6th September at 8.00am.
  • Umpire registration details will be required to be completed online by Wednesday 28th July.
  • We encourage school teams to bring junior umpires to gain experience from this tournament (mentoring and coaching provided).
  • Participating teams are required to provide an experienced umpire, or should an umpire be required, then there is an additional cost of $750.00 for the week (indication of requiring a paid umpire is to be recorded and paid for on the initial registration form).

11-aside Format

  • Teams will play round robin during pool play with finals to decide all placings.
  • Girls and Boys Finals will be played at different times.
  • Maximum of 16 registered players per team.
  • To ensure the health and safety of all players we request that they are competitive hockey players in their local competition.
  • Maximum of three games over two days in pool play.
  • All teams will play a minimum of six games.
  • STRICTLY NO MIXED GENDER TEAMS IN THE 11-ASIDE DIVISION

11-aside Rules

  • All games will be 20-minute halves – three-minute half time.
  • Time controlled by a timekeeper.
  • There will be five-minute breaks between games for warm-ups and turf watering (as required).
  • Teams MUST wear shirts with playing numbers on the back. Players must be registered with this number.
  • Mouth guards and shin pads are mandatory.
  • We encourage defenders to wear face masks for penalty corners.
  • Teams are responsible for their own first aid. An emergency vehicle will be stationed at the Blake Park complex covering the Hockey, Football, Tennis, Squash and Netball tournaments.
  • Ice is available at tournament control, and in dugouts.
  • All team managers are required to have their team medical forms with them throughout the week.

6-aside Format

  • All games will be 6-aside INCLUDING a goalkeeper.
  • Maximum of 10 registered players per team.
  • To ensure the health and safety of all players we request that they are competitive hockey players in their local competition.
  • There must be a minimum of three boys and three girls in the Mixed Grade teams (and two boys and two girls FIELD players (excluding the goalkeeper) on the turf at all times).
  • Half turf.
  • Maximum of three games over two days in pool play.
  • All teams will play a minimum of six games.
  • Play-offs split into two divisions, with gold, silver and bronze certificates for both divisions.

Medal Presentation

The top three placed teams in 11 aside and 6 aside will be presented with their certificates and medals (B Division will receive certificates only) at the Tauranga Hockey Centre at the conclusion of the finals on Friday 10th September.
