PLANNING INFORMATION

Costs

  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $80.00 per player (NZ$).
  • Strictly non-refundable.
  • Payment MUST be made within seven days of receipt of invoice.
  • Invoices will be sent to the school accounts manager after the entry closing date, Wednesday 28th May 2025.

Entries Close

  • Wednesday 28th May 2025, at 7:59 PM.
  • Entries for the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games must be submitted online through the online registration system. 
  • Registrations will only be accepted from the school's designated Zespri AIMS Games Coordinator.
  • Schools are allocated a unique Zespri AIMS Games registration log in code to complete their entries.

Competitor's Age

Competitors must be over 10 years of age and under 13 years of age, as at 31st December the year before the tournament year. Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation. For the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, the eligible birth years are 2012, 2013, and 2014.

  • Badminton Mixed Doubles

If registration for Badminton is oversubscribed, then recognised BNZ graded players will have priority (if unsuccessful the registration fee will be refunded).

Participants in Zespri AIMS Games Badminton must be familiar with the rules and be able to officiate and score a game by the time that they compete at the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, and it will be the school’s responsibility to ensure this standard is met.  Participants should have played at least one season of Badminton before the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games (the 2025 season can be factored into this).  Badminton New Zealand is available to assist schools with this development in the lead up to the event

Multiple Sporting Codes

  • Students may compete in more than one sporting code, provided they are in line with the permitted code crossovers. 
  • Timetable allowances will not be made for any competitors, and it is the sole responsibility of the school to check for programming conflicts.

RULES

  1. The tournament will run under Badminton New Zealand (BNZ) Sanctioned Event Rules.
  2. BNZ registered players will be eligible to earn player points that apply towards National rankings as outlined by BNZ.
  3. It is not compulsory to be a BNZ registered player.
  4. Feather shuttlecocks will be provided for all matches.
  5. The tournament controller reserves the right to shorten games to ensure all an outcome by the end of play each day.
  6. Players cannot be replaced once the draw has been set.
  7. Players arriving late for matches will be disqualified at the tournament controller’s discretion.
  8. The tournament controller reserves the right to carry competition to the next day if the situation demands it.
  9. The tournament controller has the final say on all rules of play.
  10. We expect fair play, for example: If playing doubles both pairs are expected to be on court at all times and play the game fairly.
  11. Doubles participants can only enter 1 of the following: Girls Doubles, Boys Doubles or Mixed Doubles. (Where schools have 1 boys and 1 girl playing singles they can then enter the Mixed Doubles).
  12. The 2025 Zespri AIMS Games will apply BNZ’s ‘Let Them Play’ Campaign.
  13. In 2025 no coaches, teachers, parents, teammates or friends will be allowed on the back of court to coach for all Under 13 Sanctioned Events, including Zespri AIMS Games.  This ruling also applies during point break and between games.
  14. Coaches can talk with their player/s before a match starts and after it concludes.

If schools require support with ensuring their students have the required knowledge of Badminton to compete at the Zespri AIMS Games, they are encouraged to contact Donna Trow at Badminton New Zealand so that she can put them in touch with a local Association to assist with this development.

Umpires

  1. All players are expected to umpire, and line-judge as requested by the tournament controller.

Singles competition

  1. Players will be drawn into boxes using the latest BNZ Under 15 and Under 13 player points list. If a player has points on both lists the highest value will be used. Points will be calculated on a tier system: 100% of Under 15 points will be used, 75% of Under 13 points will be used.
  2. Players will play everyone within their box. All players will then go through into knockout draws in different divisions.
  3. Tournament organiser will determine the best format for the competition based on number of entries.
  4. Tournament organiser will determine the appropriate scoring format.

Doubles competition

  1. Partners must come from the same school.

Teams event

  • Badminton Boys Division from singles placings – best two combined results will determine team placing for your school.
  • Badminton Girls Division from singles placings – best two combined results will determine team placing for your school.
  • When team points are tied it is judged on the school that has the highest placed competitor.

Draw

The link to the online draw will be emailed to all team managers by Thursday 21st August and will also be available at the managers meeting on Monday morning.

MEDAL PRESENTATIONS

Singles, doubles and teams event top three place getters will be presented with their medals at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre (QEII) at the conclusion of the tournament.
