PLANNING INFORMATION

Costs

  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $80.00 per rider (NZ$).
  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $45.00 for the school team event (NZ$).
  • Strictly non-refundable.
  • Payment MUST be made within seven days of receipt of invoice.
  • Invoices will be sent to the school accounts manager after the entry closing date, Wednesday 28th May 2025.

Entries Close

  • Wednesday, 28th May 2025 at 7:59 PM.
  • Entries to the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games must be submitted online through the online registration system. 
  • Registrations will only be accepted from the school's designated Zespri AIMS Games Coordinator.
  • Schools are allocated a unique Zespri AIMS Games registration log in code to complete their entries.

Competitor's Age

Competitors must be over 10 years of age and under 13 years of age, as at 31st December the year before the tournament year. Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation. For the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, the eligible birth years are 2012, 2013, and 2014.

  • If registration for BMX is over or under subscribed the organising committee reserves the right to amalgamate classes at the discretion of the Race Commissaire.

Multiple Sporting Codes

  • Students may compete in more than one sporting code, provided they are in line with the permitted code crossovers. 
  • Timetable allowances will not be made for any competitors, and it is the sole responsibility of the school to check for programming conflicts.

Randomised team’s heats, finals between top four schools, established from total points gained by all riders, riding for their representative schools.

RULES​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

  1. There is no limit to the number of entries from each school in each class division.  With the exception of the School Cup Team Event, team managers must submit teams with riders names by Wednesday 23rd July 2025.
  2. Track Officials only in track areas during racing. Caregivers/support staff must not enter track area at any time but can meet riders in the PR area where staff will take you to riders.
  3. All team managers are required to have their team medical forms with them during the race.
  4. Team managers are responsible for riders, their parents, and other supporters. Please ensure that the safety and enjoyment of all competitors is of upmost importance.

BMX Bike Rules 

The Zespri AIMS Games meeting will be conducted under the technical rules set out by the TGBMX club in the BMX racing at Zespri AIMS Games rule book, with local rules taking precedence including the following:


  1. The TGBMX club reserves the right to determine the number of Officials, at the discretion of the Race Commissaire.
  2. Riders must be current members of a local BMX club affiliated to their National Body, BMXNZ, with a minimum of club level membership only.
  3. All bikes and helmets being used in the event MUST be inspected and passed by a scrutineer official during the registration process.
  4. It is the responsibility of the competitor to have their bike in a safe working order. The scrutineer officials and race commissaire reserve the right to refuse the use of a bike and/or helmet they judge to be not fit for purpose.
  5. Rider registration packs, including Zespri AIMS Games number plates, are to be collected from the event director at the managers meeting at the Tauranga BMX Track Command Centre at 11:00 AM on Sunday 31st August 2025. Please note. All Zespri AIMS Games number plates will be handed to managers to distribute to their school participants.
  6. The school cup teams can be made up of any gender and year – there is no limit to the number of teams per school. Team managers are responsible for supplying their designated school Zespri AIMS Games coordinator with team details prior to Wednesday 23rd July 2025.

Bike Specifications

  1. Bicycle must have 20” wheels (or at the discretion of the commissaire), single speed, with no stand, pegs, bells, lights and light mounts, carriers, or go-pro’s or their mounts.
  2. Race bike is not compulsory, though recommended.
  3. Wheel nuts and bolts are tight.
  4. Hub cones, bottom bracket, and headset must not have excessive play.
  5. Wheels run true (straight) without loose or broken spokes.
  6. Rear brake only, in working condition with no rubbing on rim.
  7. Chain has enough tension so there is no slack.
  8. Handlebars have end caps, or enclosed grips.
  9. Tyres have sufficient tread and are inflated to recommend pressure (see the sidewall of the tyre).

Rider Requirements

  1. Riders must have a full-face helmet, which meets a safety standard (ANSI, SNELL, or NZ STANDARD), with no signs of previous impact or go-pro mounts.
  2. Enclosed shoes.
  3. Riders to ride flat pedals (no clip shoes or pedals). 
  4. Long pants (no shorts) and long-sleeved shirt (tucked in).
  5. Protective pads are not compulsory, though recommended.
  6. Full fingered gloves.
  7. PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the competitor to have their bike in safe working order. The event director and race commissaire reserve the right to refuse the use of a bike or helmet judged “not fit for purpose”. Riders are reminded that they compete at their own risk.

INFORMATION

Health and Safety

  1. All competitors, team managers, and schools are reminded that they compete at their own risk and absolve the TGBMX Club, Zespri AIMS Games Trust, event director, race commissaire, all officials, helpers, and volunteers from any blame or claim.
  2. The track is challenging and a moderate to high level of fitness is required.
  3. Officials will be located on track with radio coverage to other officials and St John and race commissaire and event director in case of emergency.
  4. It is the individuals and school’s responsibility to have their bikes in a safe and working condition and adhere to the Health and Safety plan set out by the TGBMX Club.
  5. Clear instruction to team managers will be given about the extent of the organiser’s responsibilities at the Monday managers meeting.

Race Commissaire

  1. The TGBMX Club appoints the race commissaire to whom general complaints can be directed.
  2. Complaints must be lodged by team managers only, with riders on their bike in full safety gear, within 10 minutes of the completion of the race on the official disputes form.

MEDAL PRESENTATIONS

  1. Individual Division – Top three receive a medal and top eight riders in each division will receive an Zespri AIMS Games number plate.
  2. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for lap time records for each class division.
  3. Lap records in each Division recorded on AIMS Games shield, top eight lap time records receive a time trial certificate.
